Step into the heartwarming world of a home renovation journey where old and new came together in perfect harmony, giving birth to an awe-inspiring blend of classic charm and modern elegance. Nestled in the rolling hills of a quaint community just outside of Calgary's city limits overlooking the mountains, this enchanting dwelling embarked on a transformational voyage, guided by a vision of sustainability, sentiment, and style.Treasures from generations past, vintage furniture, and heirloom accents found their place in the spotlight, poised to weave their timeless stories into the fabric of this renewed home. The kitchen, the heart of every home, became a testament to the magic of blending the old and new. Reclaimed cabinets, lovingly restored to their former glory with a few minor upgrades, stood alongside hand carved marble hardware and modern appliances, forming a delightful fusion of functionality and sustainability. It became a space where culinary delights were created with love, while cherished gatherings with friends and family took place. In the living room, a masterpiece of coexistence emerged. A custom handcrafted wood mantel adorned the grand natural stone fireplace with a linear inset. Forging a seamless connection between the past and the present. Cozy layers & textures were used to infuse ease & comfort into the space.
The idea was to show how you can elevate a space without breaking the bank!
This was achieved by spray painting instead of replacing light fixtures, toilet paper and towel holder for a total of $24. Painting the walls a dramatic colour to evoke more visual interest, for $19. Installing vinyl floor tile for $53 to add brightness and pattern. Then topping it all off with a good hunt to some thrift shops for art and decor, totalling $33!
This project was a bunch of fun and definitely flexed my creativity in a few different directions to ensure we were getting the biggest bang for our buck!
The crystal for this project is yellow citrine. It’s an energizing and recharging, crystal that can potentially reverse degenerative disease and helps balance chemical imbalances in the body. It can stimulate digestion, the spleen and pancreas. Negates kidney and bladder infections. Citrine helps eye problems, increases blood circulation, detoxifies the blood, activates the thymus and balances the thyroid. Which can help you access and align your chakras.
This bedroom was completely custom. From the drapery to the bedding, everything was hand-selected. Natural fibres and colours were a big draw for this down to earth family. We had fun blending organics with patterns!
Black star diopside is thought to re-energise the body, the soul and the mind. Wonderful for a bedroom where you can shed your layers with your partner.
There are many times when I work with certain stones and crystals to create a space, and I’m unsure why I’m drawn to a specific property. Often, I’m not aware of the healing process my clients are going through, but I trust that my selections will serve them in their current life stage and processes. This is exactly what happened with this family. I felt drawn to Turquoise for no specific reason. Turquoise is an incredible stone, perhaps the oldest known to man, with many beautiful healing properties. It encourages introspection and aids in self-forgiveness, self-acceptance, and self-acknowledgment. It offers unconditional love for oneself and others, opening the heart chakra and creating space for forgiveness and ease.
I’ve known this client for some time now, and I always enjoy our encounters because they expand my perspective. This project was unique because I didn’t do much design work. Instead, I helped with finishes as they already had the design created but needed assistance finding the perfect finishing touches. We spent hours selecting tiles alone! It was a blast watching the client take the information home, mull it over, and then present their ideas and feedback. From there, we evolved the design together. It was a true co-creative process!
This is such an intimate and creative process that deals with your money, relationships, home, business, and lifestyle. There’s more to your story than just making your space look beautiful - and I want to help you tell it.
BOOK A CALL TO EXPLORE DESIGNING YOUR SPACEThis home is a blend of two beautiful families with so much love. Within the container of this home, they like to celebrate art. Each wall has its own unique piece. Much like the unique personalities that make up this home.
Tiger iron was selected for this space to encourage grounding and to energize the room. The living room of this home is where the entire family gathers together. It’s the heartbeat of the home so I wanted to make sure to enhance creative expression and generate a feeling of stability so each person who inhabits the space feels supported.
After such a devasting loss of her home in the Fort McMurray fire, this amazing client decided, when it came to the rebuild of her home, she wanted some guidance with colours, tiles, flooring and decor. Working together was a blast because we instantly clicked!
Black Tourmaline was selected for this project because it works like a sponge, soaking up all the negative energy that surrounds it. Cleansing a space to give the opportunity to heal.
This was a big empty room that hosted enough space for a pool table and ample of other large games. The clients wanted to convert their gaming basement into a space where the entire family could come together and cuddle up for movie night while feeling as though they’ve been transported to an entirely different experience. My first clue was the client’s appreciation for aviation and was keen on taking my idea to new heights! We did this by; selecting a metal looking wallpaper that imitates the metal on the wing of a plane.
This also helped the space feel a little smaller, which is a bonus as it was so large. To amplify the feeling of metal and industrial force, I designed a custom sideboard to place behind the sofa for additional storage and two C-tables for the sectional, rather than side tables. The metal pieces really helped ground everything.
White marble that contains light and dark pattern is believed to provide the additional power of connecting with intellectual states of mind and knowledge.
Just like the west dwelling, this space was done a little differently than most. Interiors by Alexandra contracted out my company to select wall, base & case colour, tile & tile design. Also selections for lighting, door and cabinetry hardware, flooring & countertops, along with a few finishing touches. Colour & product selection for the exterior was also selected. It was an absolute pleasure!
